Arrows and bolts must first be equipped from the inventory before they can be fired. Players can select up to two arrow types and two bolt type to switch between. To switch through equipped arrows, and bolts, press L2/R2 or right-click while having a bow or crossbow at the ready. Arrows may only be fired by bows, while bolts can only be fired by crossbows. Placing arrows or bolts in the left equip slots will cause a quiver or bolt quiver to appear on the player's hip respectively. Having the right slot filled but the left slot empty will not cause any quivers to appear.
Nearly all ammunition deal the Thrust damage type, the exception being Moonlight Arrows, which deal only Magic Damage. Each have an innate damage value that is added on to the damage value of the bow or crossbow that fires them. Some ammunition can also deal elemental damage in addition to Thrust, and the Poison Arrow possesses the Poison auxiliary effect. Each ammunition has its own range value, which serve to increase or decrease the effective range of the weapon. Ammunition cannot be upgraded, unlike weapons and armor.
Arrows are used as ammunition for Bows, excluding the two Greatbows.
