Archdragon Peak - 07

Archdragon Peak (古竜の頂 Kōryū no Itadaki, Ancient Dragon Peak) is a hidden, optional location in Dark Souls III.

Description[]

Archdragon Peak is an optional location that can be accessed by performing the "Path of the Dragon" gesture near the meditating dragon statue where the Dragon Torso Stone is found in the Irithyll Dungeon.

Archdragon Peak, as its name implies, is populated by Man Serpents, Rock Lizards, and Ancient Wyverns. It was seemingly built as a shrine to worship the Ancient Dragons by their descendants, the Man Serpents.

Contrary to what its name implies, Archdragon Peak does not contain any dragons, as those died long ago at the hands of the first Lords. The only dragon seemingly alive is the King of the Storm, the Nameless King's mount and companion.

Archdragon Peak also overlooks on the body of an ancient dragon. The body can be seen clearly on the peak on the opposite side of the great bell.

The main boss of the area is The Nameless King.

Lore[]

Nowadays, Archdragon Peak is no more inhabited by ancient dragons. However, their descendants, Man Serpents, persisted.[1] They serve as guards of the Peak.[2] Darkeater Midir is also archdragons descendant.[3]

Some kind of dragon worship is taking place here. Ones who choose to go path of the dragons strive for perfect imitation, using Dragon Head Stone at first.[4] Other items were used, imbued with everlasting dragons power. Way to the old dragons was long and arduous, only one could complete it.[5]

Archdragon Peak can be entered only after learning Path of the Dragon gesture found upon a corpse of Drakeblood Knight in Consumed King's Garden. One of those knights can be summoned in Archdragon Peak. Drakeblood Knights worshiped the blood of dragons.[6] Red cloth decorating their armor is said to symbolize their yearning for blood.[7]

In Archdragon Peak Calamity Ring is found, reportedly made from the orange eye of a calamitous dragon, being merely a symbol of dragon worship.[8] Mentioned dragon is Black Dragon Kalameet,[9] said to be the last one of ancient dragons.[10]

The Nameless King, known for allying with ancient dragons once, is residing on the Archdragon Peak.[11] He's accompanied by Stormdrake, which he tamed and fough together along his side.[12][13] Dragon Slayer Ornstein weapon and armor can be found laying around Nameless King's arena. Ornstein is said to leave his guard in Anor Londo cathedral to search for Nameless King.[14]
