The Black Knight Greatsword is an ultra greatsword in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Greatsword of the black knights who wander Lordran. Used to face chaos demons.
The large motion that puts the weight of the body into the attack reflects the great size of their adversaries long ago.

Availability[]

It can be obtained as a semi-common drop from Black Knights wielding the Black Knight Greatsword. A non-respawning Black Knight is located early on in Undead Parish (located on the top of the tower leading from where the player encounters three Undead Rats), while another (respawning) can be found in the Kiln of the First Flame.

Characteristics[]

The Black Knight Greatsword deals very high damage and has the second highest Strength scaling of all ultra greatswords, surpassed only by the Demon Great Machete. Like all Black Knight weapons, it deals an additional 20% damage to demons. It is notable for having strong attacks that, whilst extremely slow to perform, potentially send foes flying backward or into the air; these attacks also do catastrophic damage and, for the most part, cannot be blocked effectively unless using a high stability greatshield. While using the strong attacks in PvP, you can use them to lure an opponent for a backstab (by exposing your back) and punishing them for it. The heavy attacks have two phases: the charge up and the thrust.

Strategy[]

Make the strong attack (R2/RT) face a completely different direction than your opponent and when they get close, you can control the direction of the thrust and send them flying. Though hard to master, the sheer force of this weapon makes it a formidable threat.

Moveset[]

Attack Description
One-handed
Weak Attack
Alternating horizontal strikes. Low starting and ending lag. Wide hitbox.
One-handed
Strong Attack
The player pulls the weapon back, and performs a long reaching stab. The attack has high starting lag, and moderate ending lag, but hits for high damage, and launches opponents into the air. However, the hitbox is rather narrow, making the attack high risk due to its long wind-up.
Two-handed
Weak Attack
Alternating horizontal strikes similar but slightly faster than the one handed weak attacks.
Two-handed
Strong Attack
The blade of the weapon is pressed down onto the ground behind the player to build up tension, and then released, springing it forward and upwards. High starting lag, but the attack has a decent hitbox, and deals high damage as well as high knockback. Moderate ending lag.
Jump Attack The player jumps and strikes diagonally, embedding the sword in the ground in front of them. Low starting and ending lag.
Running Attack Performs a running overarm swing.
Rolling Attack The player comes out of their roll and thrusts forward for the full length of the blade for long but narrow hitbox, relatively low starting and ending lag. Unlike the one handed strong attack stab however, it does not do as much damage, instead doing slightly more than the one handed weak attack.
Kick Standard kick.
Left-handed
Weak Attack
Block.
Left-handed
Strong Attack
Horizontal slash, low starting and ending lag. Wide hitbox.
