- For the Dark Souls II variant, see Fire Snake.
Black Serpent is a soul-transposed pyromancy in Dark Souls III.
In-Game Description
- Pyromancy discovered from the Abyss by High Lord Wolnir that inspired the black arts of the grave wardens.
- Releases undulating black flames that trace the ground.
- Be it sorcery or pyromancy, all techniques that infringe on humanity lead to the same place. That is to say, they all seek a will of their own.
Availability[]
Obtained by transposing the Soul of High Lord Wolnir with Ludleth of Courland.
Effect[]
The caster conjures a rippling black flame at their feet that surges forward and weaves across the ground, tracking on the locked-on target. Has minor homing capability, and inflicts 1.65 times the Spell Buff of the catalyst as Dark damage to enemies it passes through.
Use[]
Single player[]
This pyromancy will only follow an opponent if it has been locked-on before casting the spell. Otherwise, the black flame will move in a random direction. This pyromancy can be useful, even if the target is not locked on, since the random movement of the flame makes the enemy break their attack while trying to avoid the spell.
Enemies that use shields, such as Cathedral Knights, have their blocks broken from this attack. This can be used to almost always perform critical attacks on them, if the shield is hit as they block, making it easier to combat defense-based enemies.
Online gameplay[]
Even if this Pyromancy doesn't seem useful in PvP, it could be used effectively with enough casting speed, a true combo (which the enemy will not be able to escape from once they are caught in) is possible by transitioning from Black Serpent to either Chaos Bed Vestiges or Great Chaos Fire Orb. One can even combo Great Chaos Fire Orb into Great Combustion or Black Flame, but only when the opponent is in front of the player and is hit by both fireball and lava.
