For the skill, see Bloodlust (skill).

The Bloodlust is a katana in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

Katana of the old Mound-Maker.
The Mound-Maker piled sacrifices upon the altar, but became the final offering himself, leaving this katana as a gift for his dear family.
Skill: Bloodlust
Stain blade with one's own blood to temporarily grant uncanny sharpness. For one driven by bloodlust, nothing deserves to remain standing.

AvailabilityEdit

Awarded for attaining Rank 1 in the Mound-makers covenant.

CharacteristicsEdit

Upon initial inspection, Bloodlust is not a very impressive-looking katana. As a unique weapon, it is incapable of being infused, meaning that a Sharp Gem cannot be used to take advantage of its strong Dexterity scaling, nor does it gain any strong benefits from extremely high Dexterity builds. Furthermore, it has very unimpressive damage output, being completely outclassed by every katana in the game save Darkdrift.

However, the primary feature of the katana is its weapon art of the same name. When activated, it damages the user and inflicts Bleed, in exchange for a damage and bleed buildup increase on the weapon. The buff lasts for 45 seconds, and increases the damage dealt by a flat 30%; with good Dexterity, this allows Bloodlust to deal more physical damage than any other katana in the game, and even rival Frayed Blade for the most raw attack power.

The drawback, besides inflicting damage and Bleed on oneself, is that the weapon lacks the Hold skill in lieu of the buff, and thus the weapon is less flexible for executing powerful strong attacks and parries.
