The Broadsword is a straight sword in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

A straight sword with a broad blade designed for slashing.
A large sweeping attack makes this effective against crowds, but is prone to deflection from walls in narrow spaces.
Skill: Stance
While in stance, use normal attack to break a foe's guard from below, and strong attack to slash upwards with a forward lunge.

AvailabilityEdit

Found in the High Wall of Lothric, beyond the Tower on the Wall bonfire, in the room where Greirat's cell key is found. The corpse holding it is found in a small room in which a longsword-wielding hollow is found guarding it.

CharacteristicsEdit

The Broadsword is a short sword with a wide blade that emphasizes slashing, and thus, offers no thrust attacks. In turn, the Broadsword features high base damage and good strength scaling, allowing the sword to deal formidable damage at any point in the game. Additionally, the broad slash attacks allow the sword to dispatch groups of enemies with ease. However, care should be taken when in tight corridors or near walls, as the sword is likely to bounce off of solid objects, rendering the wielder vulnerable for a brief moment.

The Broadsword also features a unique moveset, with the heavy attack (PlayStation - R2 - 01/Xbox 360 - Trigger Right - 01) being a horizontal slash in front of the player. The one-handed variant also features a charge which is capable of moving the player great distances quickly to make up for the short reach of the weapon. Due to the attack's tracking, there is little to no risk that the wielder will charge past an opponent during this portion of the attack, and it will likely hit as long as the opponent does not dodge the attack. Furthermore, the charge can catch unwary opponents off-guard, allowing for free hits or even catching enemies in their dodge.

NotesEdit

  • Much like the Long Sword, the Broadsword's weapon art has the player transition into a stance in which they hold the blade with both hands, and hold it up at their shoulder level. Executing a light attack whilst in the stance will cause the player to perform a quick vertical slash that inflicts significant stamina damage, which may result in an opponent's guard being broken; the player may then riposte them with a critical attack, if they so choose. Using the strong attack whilst in the stance will perform a slash similar to the normal art, but with much more potency.

UpgradesEdit

Reinforced with Titanite.
