The Chaos Blade is a katana in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

A cursed sword of unknown origin bearing uncanny streaks on its blade.
Attacks also damage its wielder.
The sword is not unlike a thing misshapen, granted life, but never welcome in this world. In other words, chaos itself.
Skill: Hold
Assume a holding stance to rapidly execute a lunging slash with normal attack, or a deflecting parry with strong attack.

Availability

Found in the Untended Graves, uphill the left path before entering the remains of Firelink Shrine, on the same spot where the Sword Master was encountered in the Cemetery of Ash.

Characteristics

The Chaos Blade provides excellent base damage, scaling and reach for a katana, at relatively low stat requirements. It also features a standard katana moveset. However, it cannot be buffed or infused in any way, meaning some specialized builds will be able to gain more benefit from using one of the buffable or infusable katanas.

Additionally, it damages the wielder every time they hit an opponent. This damage is a set number and is not affected by the wielder's defenses, health or damage dealt, and it will occur even if the target did not take damage from the strike, such as if they were blocking the attack or succesfully rolled through it. In longer fights, this may prove fatal to the player if they are not careful. However, equipment such as the Ring of the Evil Eye, Sun Princess Ring, or an off-hand weapon infused with a Blessed Gem, can help with off-setting some of the recoil damage.

Moveset

The Chaos blade's moveset is identical to that of the Uchigatana.

One handed light attack: Diagonal slash downward. Further input causes a diaganol slash upwards.

One handed strong attack: The katana is brought backwards before being thrust forwards. further input triggers a horizontal slash.

Two Handed light attack: a downward slash. Further input causes an upward slash.

Two Handed Strong attack: the katana is brought above the players head before being brought down in a slashing motion.

Kick: Standard kick

Jump attack: Standard jump attack

Upgrades

Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
