Crystal Lizards are non-hostile enemies in Dark Souls III.

Description[]

Crystal Lizards are small titanite reptiles found throughout the Dark Souls universe. Once killed, they will drop a variety of different types of titanite. The type of titanite they drop is dependent on the location the lizard is encountered at. These enemies are non-hostile, in fact quite the opposite as they will attempt to run away if the player approaches them.

Strategy[]

Crystal Lizards can be ran up on quick enough to deliver a heavy blow with either a heavy or medium weapon, toppling them and allowing for another successful hit. This is also possible with other lighter weapons, although subsequent attacks become much less likely to connect.

The player can steer a lizard's direction of movement by running around them opposite to the direction they want them to face. Using this strategy to push them into walls and away from danger can make them much easier to deal with in situations where killing them can be difficult or risky.

Additionally, if the player missed a lizard on their first try, they can make them respawn by quitting and reloading the game. This process can be repeated indefinitely (Crystal Lizards will not respawn if the player only rests at a bonfire, the area needs to be reloaded).

Once exiting the dark room by the third floor, a lizard can be seen on top of some bookshelves to the right of the kickable ladder. It can either be killed with ranged attacks from this spot or the player can drop through a broken banister from a floor above and kill it with melee attacks.

Note: This lizard will not drop a Twinkling Titanite.

Refined Gem
Refined Gem
Once reaching the sixth and highest floor within the archives and before going through the doorway that leads to the roofs section of this area, turn right and the lizard will be on a hallway. The bookshelves of this passage release a large number of Clawed Curses that inflict both physical damage and Curse build-up, so covering the head with wax is highly recommended before even attempting to kill it.
Sharp Gem
Sharp Gem
In the open area section of this level, don't drop to where the group of Corvians are and instead climb up to the roof on the left, where the second Gargoyle appears. A couple of lizards can be seen in the distance. The nearest one will drop a Sharp Gem...
Heavy Gem
Heavy Gem
...while the other will drop a Heavy Gem.
Archdragon Peak
Twinkling Titanite (DSIII)
Twinkling Titanite
Found just before the open area where the second Ancient Wyvern attacks.

Notes[]

  • Unlike in previous games, Crystal Lizards in Dark Souls III are remarkably easier to kill, requiring less hits, being slower, having a much reduced aggro range, and staying on the field for longer periods of time.
  • A lizard that has already started its vanishing animation, can still be damaged and slain before it disappears completely from the map.
  • If a lizard managed to escape, reloading the level will make it reappear at its designated spot. This can be achieved, for example, just by exiting and continuing the game.
