Crystal Lizards are small titanite reptiles found throughout the Dark Souls universe. Once killed, they will drop a variety of different types of titanite. The type of titanite they drop is dependent on the location the lizard is encountered at. These enemies are non-hostile, in fact quite the opposite as they will attempt to run away if the player approaches them.
Crystal Lizards can be ran up on quick enough to deliver a heavy blow with either a heavy or medium weapon, toppling them and allowing for another successful hit. This is also possible with other lighter weapons, although subsequent attacks become much less likely to connect.
The player can steer a lizard's direction of movement by running around them opposite to the direction they want them to face. Using this strategy to push them into walls and away form danger can make them much easier to deal with in situations where killing them can be difficult or risky.
Additionally, if the player missed a lizard on their first try, they can make them respawn by quitting and reloading the game. This process can be repeated indefinitely (Crystal Lizards will not respawn if the player only rests at a bonfire, the area needs to be reloaded).
Locations and dropsEdit
Cemetery of Ash
In a secluded area behind the shrine's rooftop. To reach it, first gain access to the rooftop and then head toward the rightmost part to find a narrow passage where the lizard can be found.
High Wall of Lothric
On the rooftops, behind the second Pus of Man.
On the right side of a house near the Dilapidated Bridge bonfire.
At the bottom of the chasm before reaching Irina's cell (Grave Key required).
Road of Sacrifices
On a wide corridor inside the keep ruins, a couple of rooms before reaching the Crystal Sage.
On a ledge below, along the road that leads from the Crystal Sage bonfire to the Cathedral of the Deep.
On another ledge further below in the same area.
Cathedral of the Deep
From the Cleansing Chapel bonfire, head toward the cemetery and turn right. Follow a narrow passage that leads to the chapel's annex, where three Corpse Grubs can be found lurking about. Make way to the other side of the building. The lizard is near the top of a small staircase.
In the same area mentioned above, keep heading around the annex. The lizard can be found near to a sleeping Ravenous Crystal Lizard.
From the Old Wolf of Farron bonfire, at the ruined fortress, exit and follow the ledge by the right side of the building. The lizard is found near the corner on the backside.
Large Titanite Shard
From the Old Wolf of Farron bonfire, at the ruined fortress, take the lift up and climb the stairs to the right. Turn around and search for a broken part of the scenery, near the corner and opposite to the Stray Demon. Drop to the ledges below and proceed onward. The lizard can be found in an open area, near a dead wyvern.
Large Titanite Shard
In the same area mentioned above, another lizard can be found just a little bit further.
In the same area mentioned above, turn around and head toward some debris that lead to a staircase on the right. The lizard can be found at the base of the stairs.
Catacombs of Carthus
On a ledge on the left side of the large room with the staircase where the first Boulder o' Bones appears, just after meeting Anri of Astora for the first time in this location.
On a passage behind the Skeleton Swordsman overlooking the bridge that leads to High Lord Wolnir.
At the lake, proceed forward while hanging on to the right wall. A small cave can be found before reaching the area with many Great Crabs and which leads to the encounter with Horace the Hushed. The lizard can be found inside this passage.
In the same area mentioned above, a second lizard can be found just a little bit further.
Alternatively, lead the ballista to destroy a part of the stone floor area near the center of the lake. Drop inside to land on the same corridor mentioned above and find the lizard.
Irithyll of the Boreal Valley
From the Central Irithyll bonfire, make way past the plaza with the fountain. To the left of the second Fire Witch there is a small terrace where the lizard dwells.
From the Church of Yorshka bonfire, make way until reaching the open area with the lake surrounding the city. Before proceeding further, turn right and walk along the quay. Hit the illusory wall at the end of the first alcove to reveal the lizard.
Outside the cathedral where the Pontiff Sulyvahn bonfire is, in the small courtyard found behind the boss room.
Another lizard can be found in the same area mentioned above.
From the Pontiff Sulyvahn bonfire, proceed onward until reaching a large courtyard full of Giant Slaves' corpses. Look for a path on the left with many concealed Irithyllian Slaves and climb up the nearby stairs. Turn around and enter the doorway, which leads to the second floor of Pontiff Sulyvahn's boss room. The lizard can be found near the end of the left corridor.
On the corridor at ground level of the west wing, lurking in front a couple of cells with Wretches inside and before exiting the cell block.
In the second building, on the same ledge where the Giant Slave lies on to sleep. Drop through the first opening on the right of the long corridor to find it. The giant will most likely wake up when the lizard is slain, so either kill it with ranged attacks or procure an escape route first.
From the Profaned Capital bonfire, climb the ladder back down to the center of the tower and look for an opening on the wall. Drop down and follow the path to the right of the ambushing gargoyle. The lizard lurks along the corridors of the next building, although caution must be taken in order to avoid falling through the holes on the ground. Take the left path to reach the lizard from another angle without problems.
A second lizard can be found a little bit further and to the left of the same area mentioned above.
From the Dragon Barracks bonfire, head toward the castle and drop from the bridge to a path below (be aware of two Pus of Man guarding the area). The lizard is found by following the path on the right, although caution must be taken as there are two Hollow Assassin ambushes prepared in this area. Approach the lizard from a side and make it steer toward a wall in order to prevent it from running further into the alley.
Note: All Crystal Lizards within this level have a fixed drop of one
Twinkling Titanite each, in addition to the items listed below.
Right upon entering the archives, advance forward to the spot where the Crystal Sage first appears and turn left. Climb up the staircase and the lizard will be at the top.
From the large vat filled with wax located at the far end of the building, enter the room shrouded in darkness on the right. The lizard is located at the base of a mobile staircase and will most likely climb it when approached.
Another lizard can be found just to the right of the one mentioned above.
Titanite Scale ×2
Once exiting the dark room by the third floor, a lizard can be seen on top of some bookshelves to the right of the kickable ladder. It can either be killed with ranged attacks from this spot or the player can drop through a broken banister from a floor above and kill it with melee attacks.
Note: This lizard will not drop a Twinkling Titanite.
Upon exiting the same dark room by the third floor, another lizard can be found just to the left.
Once reaching the sixth and highest floor within the archives and before going through the doorway that leads to the roofs section of this area, turn right and the lizard will be on a hallway. The bookshelves of this passage release a large number of Clawed Curses that inflict both physical damage and Curse build-up, so covering the head with wax is highly recommended before even attempting to kill it.
In the open area section of this level, don't drop to where the group of Corvians are and instead climb up to the roof on the left, where the second Gargoyle appears. A couple of lizards can be seen in the distance. The nearest one will drop a Sharp Gem...
...while the other will drop a Heavy Gem.
Found just before the open area where the second Ancient Wyvern attacks.
- Unlike in previous games, Crystal Lizards in Dark Souls III are remarkably easier to kill, requiring less hits, being slower, having a much reduced aggro range, and staying on the field for longer periods of time.
- A lizard that has already started its vanishing animation, can still be damaged and slain before it disappears completely from the map.
- If a lizard managed to escape, reloading the level will make it reappear at its designated spot. This can be achieved, for example, just by exiting and continuing the game.
