The Curved Nil Greatsword is a curved greatsword in Dark Souls II: Crown of the Ivory King.

In-Game Description

A great curved sword with an ominous blade.
One of the forbidden weapons sealed away
by the Ivory King.

Formed by rock, tree, and the remnants
of a most peculiar soul.

It is said that the farther its wielder travels,
the deadlier the blade becomes.

Availability

• Found in an iron chest surrounded by three Frozen Golems in Frozen Eleum Loyce. The chest is covered in ice, rendering it unopenable, until the player agrees to help Alsanna.

Characteristics

The Curved Nil Greatsword has the standard one-handed moveset of the Murakumo, yet features a unique moveset when two-handed, resembling the Murakumo from the original Dark Souls. It also features a slow strong swing in place of a Parry, which is also the same move when performing a backstep attack (except it's slower than the backstep attack).

Its two handed strong attack is also different than most bladed weapons as it is borrowed from the Halberd class, meaning the player will spin twice with the weapon, however, pressing it again will also use the previously mentioned attack that replaces the parry.

When Power Stancing with the Curved Nil Greatsword in the right hand with any Curved Greatswords, Ultra Greatswords, or Greatswords (except the Majestic Greatsword, as it possesses its own special left hand power stance attack), pressing the left strong attack button results in a unique, powerful double spin attack, both swords pointing in opposite directions, with a moderate delay between the two slashes.

However, if the Curved Nil Greatsword is Power Stanced in the left hand, the unique power stance attack is only available with a greatsword in the right hand. Using any other compatible weapons will result in a standard Curved Greatsword power stance attack.

Notes

• As the description suggests, this weapon becomes stronger based on the player's progress. Specifically, its damage increases for each playthrough the character has completed, up to NG +9 for a total of 100 extra AR.
• At +5 STR/DEX scaling becomes S/B.
• Infusing the weapon with elemental damage will turn the scaling of whatever element was infused into an S (when at +5)
• Gives the user a red aura in NG+.
• Upgrades with Twinkling Titanite.
