Characteristics[]

Darkdrift trades the raw attack power of most katanas for some unique characteristics that allow it to fill a niche other katanas cannot.

Its scaling is more akin to a quality weapon, as opposed to other katanas that scale largely with Dexterity, meaning that leveling Strength is required to make its damage output more comparable to other katanas. Even in such a situation, its Attack Rating still lags behind most other katanas, making it one of the weakest in its class. However, it makes up for this with its ability to deal damage through raised shields, particularly when using strong attacks, allowing its wielder to cut through defensive foes with ease. Its skill further augments this, eschewing the use of Hold for a lunging thrust that is capable of completely bypassing shields.

Furthermore, despite being upgraded with Twinkling Titanite, Darkdrift can be buffed. Aside from making the weapon slightly stronger than initially apparent, this can be combined with its ability to pierce through shields to make it lethal against any foes that rely on their shields to protect themselves. Additionally, its low weight of 3.5 puts it more in line with straight swords and curved swords than katanas. This allows it to be equipped with other weapons more easily without compromising weight, allowing it to be ready to be used should a defensive opponent be encountered.
