For other uses, see Faith (disambiguation).

Faith is a stat in Dark Souls III that increases attack damage with Faith-based weapons and catalysts as well as increased damage output with spells such as Miracles and Pyromancies.

Faith increases damage done by weapons and catalysts through the use of a scaling mechanic. A letter denoting a weapons specific scaling properties is noted beneath the weapon's required faith stat. The letters range in order of effectiveness from E, D, C, B, A, and S.

Weapons and catalysts with an E rating for scaling will receive a poor benefit from investment in faith while weapons with an S rating receive the greatest benefit.

Note: the term Catalyst refers to any medium used to cast spells.

As is with every other stat in the game, it also has indirect bonuses such as increasing the player character's flat damage absorption. In this case, Faith governs the players flat defenses against Dark damage.

Soft caps[]

Depending on the catalyst, weapon and infusion, leveling Faith to certain thresholds will maximize its potency with those tools.

Most weapons that inflict innate Lightning damage, or which inflicts Physical damage based off Faith, such as the Dragonslayer Greataxe, Wolnir's Holy Sword and Sunlight Straight Sword will reach peak efficiency at 40 Faith; in a special case, this also applies to the Crucifix of the Mad King, which inflicts Dark damage scaling primarily from Faith. Weapons that have been infused with a Lightning Gem or Blessed Gem also soft-cap their respective damage types at 40 Faith.

If a weapon inflicts innate Fire or Dark damage, like the Gargoyle Flame Spear and Dark Hand, Faith will improve the respective elemental damage, alongside Intelligence, to a soft-cap of 40 for each stat. For infusions with a Chaos Gem or Dark Gem, the soft-cap becomes 30 Faith alongside 30 Intelligence.

Sacred Chimes and Talismans used for casting Miracles will see very strong returns from Faith investment. Almost all such catalysts require leveling Faith to a minimum of 18 before Spell Buff begins to increase, and this continues to improve the strength of the catalyst up until 60 Faith is reached. For most Faith catalysts, the rate of Spell Buff improvement falls off after 45 Faith.

For catalysts that specialize in casting Pyromancies, Dark Sorceries and Dark Miracles, the scaling and soft-caps behave differently. As like their melee counterparts, Pyromancy Flames will improve up until 40 Faith is reached, alongside 40 Intelligence. For specialized Dark catalysts like the Izalith Staff and Caitha's Chime, this cap is instead 45 Faith and 45 Intelligence. Crystal Chime also soft-caps at these values, however its scaling falls off noticeably past 30 Faith and 30 Intelligence.
