For the Dark Souls III variant, see Grave Warden (Dark Souls III).

Grave Wardens are enemies in Dark Souls II.

In-Game Description

Grave Wardens are charged with watching over the Undead Crypt. They are soaked and permeated with the power of darkness, and they will use that power to fulfill their duty as guardians of the crypt.
Be you brave knight or depraved slave, those who disturb the Crypt will be hunted down. Only… why are these Wardens so far from the Crypt they are sworn to protect?[1]

Location[]

They are first encountered in the Earthen Peak and can later be found in the Undead Crypt.

Description[]

Grave Wardens are humanoid warriors that wear ragged robes, including a cloth mask concealing their faces. There are two variants, one that is fully clothed and one missing the torso cloth. They wield spears and sickles that are capable of inflicting dark damage on the player.

Strategy[]

Grave Wardens have low poise and can be easily staggered by repeated attacks. However they tend to guard a lot and their spear attacks can inflict dark damage even when blocking, so it is advised to evade their lunges rather than guard them. Grave Wardens can heal with Estus when injured.

The Grave Wardens encountered in the Undead Crypt are not initially hostile to the player unless they are attacked. They will also become aggressive if the player enters their chamber with a source of light, such as a torch. A player may attack them freely, without Grave Warden Agdayne intervening, however the two dual-wielding wardens are a force to be reckoned with, and the reward of killing them is a chance to get their unique sickle.
