The Bastard Sword is a greatsword in Dark Souls II.
In-Game Description
- A standard greatsword.
- Heavy greatswords are designed to be wielded two-handed.
- Normally swung in large arcs and effective against multiple foes, be wary that such attacks leave the wielder wide open.
Availability[]
- Found on a corpse in the Forest of Fallen Giants near the Soldier's Rest bonfire.
- Dropped by greatsword-wielding Hollow Soldiers in the Forest of Fallen Giants.
- Purchased from Steady Hand McDuff for 3,000 souls.
Characteristics[]
The Bastard Sword is a fairly strong greatsword that is available near the start of the player's journey.
The low stat requirement and ease of access generally gives the Bastard Sword the role of an early-game weapon that is only used until it can be switched for a stronger weapon. Despite this, it can still hold its own in the late-game due to its relatively high damage output. This is especially true for Intelligence/Faith-focused builds, if they cannot handle heavier weaponry.
It has the same moveset as the Claymore, save for the strong attacks, which are overhead swings instead of thrusts. The fast attacks combine with the high Poise break to allow the weapon to stagger most enemies, including PvP opponents, with ease.
Although the Claymore may be considered better, the Bastard Sword's only true weakness is the absence of any easy-to-use thrust, being limited to the rolling attack.
