Blade of the Darkmoon is a PvP-oriented covenant in Dark Souls. Darkmoon Blades hunt those who have sinned.

Requirements[]

The player must not have killed Dark Sun Gwyndolin. If the player has killed Gwynevere, they must request absolution from Oswald before joining.

How to Join[]

First, acquire the Darkmoon Seance Ring in The Catacombs. Go to the bottom level of the rotating elevator in Anor Londo to find the Darkmoon Tomb bonfire. Past the bonfire, Gwyn's statue will disappear to reveal a fog gate if the player is wearing the Darkmoon Seance Ring. If the player has killed Gwynevere, the statue will just disappear when approached. Go toward the fog gate and Dark Sun Gwyndolin will ask the player to swear fealty to the Blades of the Darkmoon. Kneel at the fog door to join the covenant.

Benefits[]

Upon joining, players receive:

  • Blue Eye Orb
  • Darkmoon Blade Covenant Ring

Further rewards are unlocked upon leveling up in the covenant, based on the number of Souvenirs of Reprisal donated.

Rank Souvenirs Offered Rewards
- 0 Blue Eye Orb
Darkmoon Blade Covenant Ring
+1 10 Darkmoon Blade
Darkmoon Talisman
+2 30 Darkmoon Blade's power is increased
+3 80 Darkmoon Blade's power is increased

Players may only use the Darkmoon Blade miracle when they are in the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant; the buff is initially 1.8x of the magic adjust of the talisman, but will gain 0.1 with every level gained in the covenant (1.9x at +1, 2.0x at +2, and 2.1x at +3).

Being part of the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant does not prevent invasions from other members.

Activities[]

Blades of the Darkmoon hunt players that have attacked the illusion of Gwynevere or have committed any amount of sins by either getting kicked out of a covenant or being indicted by other players. Players risk nothing invading other people's worlds (cannot be indicted and all souls and humanity are kept upon death) and gain a Souvenir of Reprisal for each guilty player they defeat.

Betrayal[]

Entering Gwyn's Tomb to confront Gwyndolin counts as a betrayal and results in expulsion from the covenant. Destroying the illusion of Gwynevere while being part of the Blades of the Darkmoon will NOT cause Gwyndolin to expel the player from the covenant, but it will prevent the player from offering any more souvenirs of reprisal to Gwyndolin.

Overview[]

Blade of the Darkmoon is considered one of the more difficult covenants to master. Every person the player invades as a spirit of vengeance has likely had experience in PvP (since Indictments during an invasion are one of the few repeatable ways of gaining sin), and so will usually put up a tougher fight than people invaded by Darkwraiths. To make matters worse, people in Dark Anor Londo are likely to be duel-mongerers who kill Blades of the Darkmoon for sport or for souls. They very often have friendly summons with them.

However, the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant is very worthwhile. The Darkmoon Talisman has the best miracle adjust in the game, so any player who relies on miracles would benefit from joining this covenant; in turn, Darkmoon Blade is an excellent weapon buff. With patience and perseverance, players may yet reap the benefits of the Blade of the Darkmoon.
