Lud and Zallen are a pair of optional bosses in Dark Souls II: Crown of the Ivory King.
Lore[]
Lud and Zallen served the Ivory King, along with five other beasts. Each was conferred a specific duty. Lud and Zallen's was the mercy killing of exiles.
Location[]
Found in a large arena located at the end of the Frigid Outskirts.
Summons[]
All summons are found near the statues.
- Abbess Feeva
- Head of Vengarl
- Scholar of the First Sin: Manhunter O'Harrah
Attacks[]
- Double Swipe Attack: Jumps forward and swipes its claws twice one after the other.
- Jumping Bite: Grabs the player in his mouth and bites down, dealing heavy damage. After the bite, the beast throws the player to the floor.
- Homing Ice Soulmass: Roars and casts a version of Homing Crystal Soulmass around itself. Fires them after a short delay.
- 180° Claw Attack: Spins 180-degrees and swipes its claws at anything in its path, knocking them to the floor.
- Ice Blast: Roars, causing an area-of-effect blast that knocks the player to the floor.
- Ice Pillars Attack: Summons damaging pillars of ice to emerge from the floor.
- Regenerative Roar: Zallen will do a roar that both increases his damage and continuously heals him (about 1% per second) if he remains below half health for too long. If Zallen is downed before Lud, then the remaining beast will perform the roar at low health. The roar causes him to glow red and the effect lasts for about a minute or two, after which he does not appear to use it again. The animation appears similar to the ice blast move, but he throws his head further back while roaring.

Notes[]
- It is recommended to bring Abbess Feeva and Head of Vengarl with you. They can help you on the journey to the boss. Although they don't deal concrete damage to the boss, they can serve as a distraction while you fight the boss.
- As with Aava, the two beasts quickly corrode weapons, so it may be wise to bring Repair Powder or a secondary weapon.
- Zallen will join the fight when Lud's health drops below a certain percentage of health. The exact number seems to be determined by the amount of phantoms summoned into the fight (i.e. the more phantoms summoned, the earlier Zallen joins the fight).
- It is not recommended to block Homing Ice Soulmass. If your shield does not have high magic resistance, you will likely die. The Soulmass can be completely avoided by standing directly behind the boss casting it, or sprinting to a side after the boss casts it.
- It is very rare for both Lud and Zallen to simultaneously cast Homing Crystal Soulmass.
