The Hollow Soldier Shield is a medium shield in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Metal shield wielded by Hollow soldiers. Heavily rusted but sturdy, providing a strong defense.

Availability

The Hollow Soldier Shield is rarely dropped by the Hollow Soldiers that wield a Longsword or Spear.

Characteristics

Hollow Soldier Shield has solid defense for the time it can be obtained, handy for classes that start with poor shields. However, upgrading it is not recommended as the Tower Kite Shield and Balder Shield are both superior alternatives that can be obtained early in the game.

The Hollow Soldier Shield has medium deflection and normal parry speed. When upgraded to crystal, the durability is 25. This shield used to be one of the best medium shields in the game, before its stats were heavily altered after patch 1.04/1.05.

Resistance Defense

Along with Physical and Elemental damage reduction, weapons also have hidden stats that reduce the amount of status build-up while blocking.

Two-handed Strong Attack	Holds shield up and runs forward, then slams it down at the end. Additional inputs yield a horizontal swing.*

Running Attack	Holds shield up and runs forward, then swings open at the end.*
Rolling Attack	Downward swing.
