Locations[]

Lore[]

Milfanito, together with the Fenito[2], are beings that were created by Gravelord Nito to deal with the emergence of the Undead connected to the fading of the First Flame[3] as beings that defyied the death he oversaw. They were women who have little concept of self and refer to themselves as a single entity. Nito taught them to sing a special song[4], making them enchanting singers with the task of comforting the Undead. They live only to sing and will continue to do so until they can do so no longer[5].

After an immense amount of time after Nito's death due to a Chosen Undead, the Milfanito and the Fenito continued to serve their purpose and and carrying out the will of the "Great Dead One", arriving in Drangleic where they positioned themselves to manage the Undead Crypt[6], a place of rest for the "living" where those afflicted by the curse of Undeath could only pray to one day gain entrance[7]. The Milfanitos would thus have continued to sing to appease the spirits of the dead buried in the crypt.

In the Shrine of the Living, where there is a Milfanito, there is an artifact capable of reverse the Hollowing of the Undead[8] while the Milfanito who was imprisoned in the Drangleic Castle possesses a Ring of the Dead that is able to make the wearer appear human even when Hollow[9] implying that the Milfanito had developed or had to manage artifacts capable of dealing with condition of the Hollows.

Plot[]

The Milfanito are incredibly secluded maidens who reside within the Shrine of Amana and sing to comfort those that carry death and dark within themselves. They seem to have very little individuality and more so refer to themselves as a single entity. When they sing, "the little ones dance", referring to the Brightbugs scattered around the area. They constantly say that they know nothing about the outside world but have no desire to leave. However, they possess Divine Blessings, although they don't know what they are. There are three Milfanito in the Shrine of Amana and one in Drangleic Castle.

The Key to the Embedded is obtained after the player defeats the Demon of Song; this key will grant access to the Milfanito imprisoned at the top of Drangleic Castle. When freed, she will sigh and disappear, dropping the Ring of the Dead. A brief singing can be heard while on the elevator leading back to the lower floor. Talking to each of the other two Milfanito afterward will reward the player with one Divine Blessing. After defeating the Demon of Song, the Milfanito will express their gratification for silencing "that cursed singing" and reward the player with an item.

In Scholar of the First Sin, they will reward the player with a Petrified Something after killing the Demon of Song. Talking to the Milfanito before said boss, will reward the player with a Fire Seed.

The Shrine of the Living[]

The altar that the fourth Milfanito prays to can be used to reverse hollowing. The player must not have any Human Effigies in their inventory or item box for this to work. Dropped effigies on the ground will also prevent the shrine from working. Praying at the Shrine while still having an effigy will result in the message "Alas, nothing happened".

The altar is located near the Rise of the dead bonfire, in Shrine of Amana.

Notes[]

  • They never become hostile.
  • They stop singing when the player gets too close.
  • When the Milfanito sing, the brightbugs in the area make the Lizardmen passive and also reveal their position; as such, they will not attack the player unless they get too close. When they stop singing, the brightbugs scatter, making the Lizardmen harder to locate and making their aggro range much more extensive.
  • If a Milfanito is killed by accident, the player can use a Bonfire Ascetic to revive them and atone sins with Cromwell the Pardoner, allowing them to finish the quest.

Trivia[]

  • As with Gravelord Nito, their implied creator, the Milfanito's name could be a play on the Italian word finito, meaning "ended."
  • The Milfanito located before the Demon of Song's fog gate appears weak and will not converse with the player. This is likely related to the Demon itself, in which she may have narrowly escaped death from the creature.
  • The song the Milfanito sing is a rendition of the Nameless Song, which was the end-credits theme in the original Dark Souls.
