New Game Plus is a gameplay mechanic in Dark Souls.
New Game+, or NG+ is entered once the Chosen Undead defeats Gwyn, Lord of Cinder and chooses to either Link the Fire or usher in the Age of Dark. Choosing either ending will have no effect on New Game+.
Differences[]
The story and events in New Game+ are identical to New Game. The primary difference is an increase in game difficulty, in the form of more powerful enemies, and greater reward in souls for their defeat. The player keeps all non-story based acquired weapons, armor, items, and rings. Additionally, bonfires kindled in New Game remain kindled in New Game+.
Items lost[]
- The Orange Charred Ring.
- The Covenant of Artorias.
- All Keys and items that appear under Keys in-game, including Embers, the Rite of Kindling, Weapon Smithbox, Armor Smithbox, Repairbox, the Lordvessel and the Crest of Artorias.
Exceptions are the Master Key and the Bottomless Box, which are not lost.
If the player is human before entering New Game+, they lose their human status and will have to reverse hollowing at a bonfire.
New Game+ and beyond[]
Once the player reaches the end again they will start with an even harder difficulty and an increase in souls received from enemies but only marginally so. Enemies gain 2.4 to 1.37 times their normal damage, 1.7 to 0.97 times their normal defense, 2.05 to 1.17 times their normal stamina damage, 5 to 2 times their normal souls dropped, and 2.7 to 1.54 times the normal health. After this, the increases are smaller, ranging from 1.07 times all previously mentioned bonuses at New Game +2 to 1.25x at New Game +6. The difficulty increase stops at New Game +6.
