The Old Knight Set offers an immense amount of Poise for how early it can be obtained. While it has high physical defence, bleed resistance and poise, its elemental defenses and other status resistances are underwhelming.
Like all Old Knight gear, the durability of the set is extremely low, requiring one to take preventive measures to ensure the set does not break prior to reaching the next bonfire.
