For the Dark Souls II variant, see Torch.

The Torch is a torch in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

A simple, makeshift torch made from an oily rag wrapped around the end of a stick.
Torches such as these are the easiest way to illuminate one's surroundings, but their use comes at the cost of occupying a hand that would otherwise be free.
Can be used as a rudimentary weapon to inflict fire damage. It possesses no Skill, being an ordinary, basic tool.

Availability[]

Sold by the Shrine Handmaid for 300 souls.

Usage[]

Wielding the torch in one hand will illuminate the immediate area around the player to facilitate traversing through darkened areas. Holding the weak attack button while holding the torch in the left hand (PlayStation - L1 - 01 / Xbox 360 - Bumper Left - 01) will make the character raise it to provide a wider area of illumination. Pressing the strong attack button (PlayStation - L2 - 01 / Xbox 360 - Trigger Left - 01) will make the character attack with it.

The torch also has a special hidden use; if the player has been parasitized with maggots by enemies who inflict this debuff (like diverse maggot-infested creatures inhabiting the Cathedral of the Deep), just wielding it will eliminate all of them instantly, stopping the Bleed build-up meter.

Lesser enemies that are susceptible to Fire will get engulfed in flames and be heavily staggered if attacked with the torch, all this while taking constant minor damage for a few seconds.

Unlike its counterpart from the previous game, the torch in Dark Souls III has to be purchased and manually equipped. Though not intended to be used primarily as a weapon, it deals 35 Physical (Strike) + 80 Fire damage and can be reinforced. It also lights up as soon as it is wielded, not requiring the player to find a fire source for this purpose.
