The Twin Princes' Greatsword is a soul-transposed greatsword in Dark Souls III.
In-Game Description
- Sword forged from the reunion of the inseparable swords born from the souls of Lothric and Lorian, the twin princes.
- Their union is rooted in a curse, and perpetuated by grief.
- Skill: Sacred Light and Flame
While in stance, use normal attack to cast Sacred Lothric Light, and strong attack to cast Flame of Lorian.
Availability[]
Transpose Lorian's Greatsword and Lothric's Holy Sword with Ludleth of Courland. Possessing both weapons in one's inventory, speak to Ludleth of Courland when he is in possession of the Transposing Kiln to unlock additional dialogue. The two weapons can then be joined to create the Twin Princes' Greatsword, sacrificing both in the process.
Characteristics[]
As its name and method of acquisition suggest, this greatsword is a mix between Lothric's Holy Sword and Lorian's Greatsword. It possesses the Bastard Sword's move set, utilizing far reaching horizontal sweeps as its strong attacks and normal greatsword light attacks that can benefit from poise. This weapon's base damage is relatively weak due to its damage being split between physical and fire, and as it is a soul-transposed weapon, this cannot be mitigated by infusion.
Compensating for its comparitively low base damage is its unique weapon art. While in its weapon art stance (parry button), you are able to perform either the fast, long-ranged weapon art of Lothric's Holy Sword, or the slow but powerful, hyper armoured weapon art of Lorian's Greatsword. This allows the weapon to mix up its attacks and confuse opponents. The highly spammable Sacred Light (parry button > light attack) gives it a much longer theoretical range than any other greatsword. Sacred Flame, (parry button > heavy attack) though comparably less useful than Sacred Light, is a solid move for some rare situations where burst damage and hyper armour are called for.
So the strength of this weapon is its weapon art's versatility. Sacred Light can be used in a manner similar to Lightning Arrow, making it a useful finishing move for evasive opponents. Meanwhile, Sacred Flame grants more hyper armour than any greathammer attack except for their charged R2s and weapon arts, allowing the wielder to poise through a 2-handed R1 from Morne's Great Hammer with only 23.09 poise. It also deals a whopping 46.8 poise damage. This means if someone attacks you with Ledo's Great Hammer's R1 and you hit them with Sacred Flame during their attack animation, they will be stunned out of the animation unless they have at least 29.71 poise. This combination means, with a single weapon, you have a ranged, almost lightning arrow-like attack, as well as an attack comparable to a greathammer of more than double the weight. That kind of versatility can be very useful in PvP, provided you can get past the damage being weaker on standard attacks than most greatswords'.
Unfortunately, despite Sacred Light dealing magic damage (even though the near-identical weapon art on Lothric's Holy Sword deals physical damage) the damage is not increased by the Magic Clutch Ring, Crown of Dusk, etc. However, it also deals physical damage if it hits at close range, which is affected by the Leo Ring if the opponent is attacking or under the instability effect. The fire damage, on the other hand, including both the base damage and the Sacred Flame damage, is affected by items that boost fire damage. Unlike Lorian's Greatsword, Sacred Flame does not add a lingering fire damage buff to the weapon and does not launch targets into the air. Like the Wolf Knight's Greatsword's stanced heavy attack, Sacred Flame is rarely the most practical attack animation, but it still does very high damage, poise damage, and guard break damage compared to many other greatsword weapon arts.

Trivia[]
- The act of combining Lothric's Holy Sword and Lorian's Greatsword is a reference to Demon's Souls, where combining the Soulbrandt and Demonbrandt would forge the Northern Regalia.
