Firestorm is an area-of-effect pyromancy in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Primal pyromancy taught by Quelana of Izalith. Erect fire pillars in vicinity.
The storm of flame is indiscriminate, and incinerates all nearby life.

AvailabilityEdit

Sold by Quelana of Izalith in Blighttown for 30,000 souls.

General informationEdit

Firestorm has twenty "uses" per slot. A full cast of Firestorm will expend 17 of these "uses"; attempting to cast Firestorm again will result in a much weaker spell. Using Firestorm causes many (17 in a full cast) pillars of fire to erupt from the ground in a large area around the player. The spell deals very high damage and most enemies that get hit by it will be knocked back, possibly into another flame pillar.

Firestorm has a very long windup time that can be shortened through improving the Dexterity stat. Firestorm and its variants also have a distinctive sound accompanying its casting, which makes it difficult to surprise human enemies with. It may be canceled or interrupted if the caster is hit, in which case not all 17 casts will be used.

Despite its description, Firestorm will not deal damage to allies. It will, however, damage neutral characters such as merchants.

OverviewEdit

Firestorm and its variations are popular for their dramatic effect and high damage. It is a high-risk, high-reward set of pyromancy to use in PvP due to its very high damage but its lethargic cast time. Firestorm itself is less popular than both of its more powerful cousins, Fire Tempest and Chaos Storm.

Firestorm and its variants deals some of the highest damage in the game. It has the potential to hit twice, and if it does so, the result is often fatal. Unfortunately, Firestorm also features the longest cast time in the game, half of during which the player cannot move. If opponents have a decent ranged attack (such as Great Chaos Fireball), a firestorm caster may very likely be getting the short end of the stick.
