Great Deep Soul is a sorcery in Dark Souls III.
In-Game Description
- Sorcery which improves upon Deep Soul. Fires powerful darkened soul dregs.
- Archdeacon McDonnell, a sorcerer himself, delighted in the cathedral's stagnating souls. For him, they represented the glorious bedrock of this world[1].
Availability[]
Obtained as a reward for reaching Rank 1 in the Aldrich Faithful covenant. To achieve this, the player must offer 10 Human Dregs to Archdeacon McDonnell in the Water Reserve.
Effect[]
Quickly fires powerful darkened soul dregs that home in on the target, inflicting 1.3 times the Spell Buff of the catalyst as Dark damage upon impact. Has a short cast time similar to Deep Soul, and can benefit from Faith scaling as well as Dark bonus depending on the catalyst used.
Use[]
Single player[]
An upscaled version of Deep Soul, Great Deep Soul serves a similar purpose to Deep Soul, in giving Intelligence builds a source of non-Magic damage.
Online gameplay[]
Like Deep Soul, the spell travels slowly but costs little FP and stamina to cast, and homes in on the target. The fast cast animation also allows it to be useful without having to boost casting speed by equipping a Sage Ring.
As with Deep Soul, the slow homing nature of the spell makes it powerful for applying pressure against human opponents, who must pay attention to and focus on dodging the projectile for a longer period of time than they would have to against a Soul Arrow-type spell. The slow travel speed also allows the caster to quickly close the distance and bring a melee weapon to bear, using the projectile as a roll-catching mechanism.
