For the Dark Souls variant, see Beatrice's Catalyst.

The Heretic's Staff is a staff in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

Catalyst used by generations of heretic sorcerers.
Sorcery is a logical academic discipline, and the power of sorceries depends heavily on the caster's intelligence.
Skill: Steady Chant
Boost the strength of sorceries for a very short period. Works while equipped in either hand.

Found on a corpse on the Road of Sacrifices. From the Crucifixion Woods, head toward the ruins that lead to the Crystal Sage. Don't drop down into the swamp, instead follow the cliffside to a hole on a wall. Enter to find the staff on a corpse on the right.

This is a great Staff for low level players. If below 50 Intelligence, this is the best staff to use for sorceries as it has the superior Spell Buff.

This combined with how early it can be acquired is a great boon for players who are still building their ideal build.

Reinforced with regular Titanite.

  • Best Spell Buff of all staves if below level 50 Intelligence.

  • This staff's resemblance to Beatrice's Catalyst hints at the legacy of Witch Beatrice of Dark Souls, and the possibility that the Sage's Devout of Farron Keep are descended from her.
    • Beatrice can be summoned to help fight the Four Kings within the Abyss at the New Londo Ruins, similar to how the Sage's Devout aided the Undead Legion of Farron against the Abyss.
    • The description of Beatrice's set, as well as that of her catalyst, both indicate that she herself was a heretical sorceress.
