Hollowing is an effect caused by drawing out the player's "true strength" through Yoel of Londor.

After speaking with Yoel of Londor, the player can accept his offer to draw the Ashen One's true strength out. Accepting this offer allows the player to level up at total of five times with no soul cost. The player, however, will now continually hollow upon death.

Hollowing changes the player's appearance with each death and affects the damage of weapons infused with a Hollow Gem. Once hollow, the hollowing will continually "worsen" the appearance each time the player dies. Hollowing level increment is multiplied by the number of Dark Sigil's in the players inventory.

Hollowing curesEdit

The player can be healed completely of the Hollowing affect by the Fire Keeper after she receives the Fire Keeper Soul at the cost of souls proportionate to the players level.

  • Note that if the player is attempting the Usurpation of Fire ending, completely curing the Hollowing affect through the Firekeeper will sabotage this ending for the playthrough as it rids the player of the dark sigils.

Alternatively, the player can use a Purging Stone to cure the aesthetic effects of hollowing without jeopardizing the loss of the Dark Sigils. Purging stones can be purchased from Yuria of Londor.

A third option to cure the aesthetics of hollowing is to pray at the Velka, the Goddess of Sin statue located in the Undead Settlement sewers. Using the statue will not remove the Dark Sigils required for the Usurpation of Fire ending.

  • After hollowing level 15, equipping a hollow weapon or hollow shield increases the Luck stat to a maximum of 5 levels depending on the weapons' upgrade level
