- For the mechanic, see Humanity (gameplay mechanic).
Humanity is a restorative item in Dark Souls. It is also commonly known as solid humanity, to distinguish it from its liquid form.
In-Game Description
- Rare tiny black sprite found on corpses. Use to gain 1 humanity and restore a large amount of HP.
- This black sprite is called humanity, but little is known about its true nature. If the soul is the source of all life, then what distinguishes the humanity we hold within ourselves?

- Undead Parish - Turn left when facing the door that leads to Knight Lautrec of Carim. One can be found at the end of the hallway.
- Valley of Drakes - In a small cave. It's adjacent to the first Wyvern when coming from New Londo Ruins or Blighttown.
- New Londo Ruins - At the end of the pathway behind the building Ingward is standing on its fenced roof, the pathway is on the same level as the building's roof, and from there you can access the part of the building surrounding the fenced roof.
- New Londo Ruins - After draining the ruins, backtrack to the 1st elevator you passed by (at that time, the lever was blocked, contraption didn't work), call it up and take it down, when you set foot on the drained level, turn left immediately and you'll spot the corpse (mind the Mass of Souls and nearby 3 Darkwraiths).
- Painted World of Ariamis - Hanging upside down to the right of where you set foot inside the fort, from where the 2 Red Hollows come attacking.
- Painted World of Ariamis - In the snow-covered graveyard on the left side of the fort's courtyard, near the Phalanxes. It's the same corpse hanged upside down from a rope on the outside of the large building.
- Oolacile Sanctuary - Behind the pillar of the 3rd arch on the right upon your entrance.
- Chasm of the Abyss - On a cliff overlooking your first experience with masses of Humanity Phantoms, it is guarded by a frenzied Bloathead Sorceress, and accessed by following the secret path of Alvina.
Merchants[]
- One is sold by the Undead Female Merchant in Lower Undead Burg for 5,000 souls.
- Three are sold by Patches in Firelink Shrine for 10,000 souls each. Patches is available as a merchant after defeating Gravelord Nito.
- Thirteen are sold by Marvelous Chester in Royal Wood for 10,000 souls each.
General information[]
Consuming a Humanity will trigger a somewhat lengthy animation, restoring the player to full HP, as well as granting players one liquid humanity. It has no effect on status effects such as Bleed or Poison.
The Chaos Servant Covenant and the Darkwraith Covenant require the player to use liquid humanity as an offering in order to increase the player's rank within those covenants.
Having liquid humanity also increases item discovery chance (this stops increasing after 10 liquid humanity), as well as defenses (physical, magical, curse resistance, etc.).
Overview[]
Players do not lose solid humanity items upon death. This means that as long as players have Humanity in their inventory, they will not need to worry about running low.
Humanity is a popular item in PvP, as Lloyd's Talismans cannot block players from using humanity to heal; additionally, while phantoms cannot use Estus to heal in their hosts' world, they can use Humanity instead.
Humanity is not such a popular item for healing in PvE, as it takes longer to heal than Estus and is harder to replenish, but it may be used as an emergency full heal if all Estus has been used already.
Notes[]
- One Humanity per playthrough can be traded to Snuggly the Crow for a Ring of Sacrifice.
