The Man-grub's Staff is a very unique staff, in that its scaling attribute is not Intelligence, but Luck. As such, it requires a similarly unique build in order to utilize, as players must skill Intelligence in order to meet the casting requirements of various Sorceries, as well as Luck in order to boost the effectiveness of the catalyst itself.
The most effective way to use this staff is not to level Intelligence and Luck equally, but rather to level Intelligence and Attunement as supplements to a primarily Luck-based build. This gives the player access to powerful utility spells that complement Luck-based weapons, particularly in invasions, without the need to invest massive amounts of Intelligence to boost the hitting power of their spells.
At 40 Luck, the Man-grub's Staff has a higher effective spellbuff than any other staff at 45 Intelligence, and only loses out to pure Intelligence-focused staves at 50 Intelligence and higher.
At the base wielding requirement of 18 Intelligence, players will have access to utility spells such as Chameleon, Snap Freeze, Great Heavy Soul Arrow and Spook. However, increasing Intelligence to 23 (which can also be achieved by simply equipping a Scholar Ring) will give the player access to relatively powerful spells such as Great Farron Dart, Farron Flashsword, Homing Soulmass and Soul Greatsword.
Reinforced with Titanite.
- The Spell Buff is always displayed at 100, but it does in fact increase with higher investments of Luck.
- However, weapon buffs such as Great Magic Weapon will use the listed 100 Spell Buff.
