- Dropped by Shiva of the East, along with his Iron Round Shield.
- Dropped rarely by the Giant Skeletons found in the graveyard portion of Firelink Shrine, the Catacombs, and the Tomb of the Giants.
The Murakumo is the heaviest Curved Greatsword available, as well as having the highest Strength requirement in the category. However, it has the highest potential damage output among the Curved Greatswords. The Murakumo is good at staggering opponents, even those with high poise. The first swing has rather high starting lag that can be punished, but once combos start going, the Murakumo has a fairly quick swing speed for its size.
The Murakumo's moveset is versatile in open areas, but suffers in cramped quarters due to the lack of a thrusting attack.
