For the Dark Souls II variant, see Ring of the Embedded.

The Prisoner's Chain is a ring in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

Portion of a steel chain used to restrain Gundyr. Gain vigor, endurance, and vitality, but take extra damage.
A prisoner is one who has staked everything on a belief, a proclivity most apparent in the greatest of champions.

Obtained by transposing the Soul of Champion Gundyr with Ludleth of Courland.

Increases Vigor, Endurance and Vitality by 5, but reduces the player's overall damage absorption by 10%. The ring merely increases those stats by 5 levels each, and does not actually raise the player's level itself.

The damage absorption is reduced by a number depending on the wearer's armor, on average around 8, referred to as the penalty. When the wearer has no armor, the ring reduces all damage absorption by 10 points. Wearing light armor reduces this penalty by one point and a bit, at best. Wearing medium armor mitigates the penalty so that the wearer's total absorption is roughly the same as wearing no armor without the ring. Wearing heavy armor allows the wearer to retain a significant part of their damage absorption, but even in the best case the penalty will never be reduced below 6 points. To illustrate, wearing Havel's Set and the Prisoner's Chain results in a damage absorption roughly equal to wearing the Lothric Knight Set.

  • The "ring" is actually a link of the chain used to restrain Champion Gundyr.
