The Rapier is a thrusting sword in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Standard thrusting sword. Regular one-handed attack can be delivered with shield held up. Can parry with use of left hand.
Thrusting attacks pierce and are effective against foes with hard exteriors, but the wielder is left open to damage after a swing.

CharacteristicsEdit

The Rapier, like other thrusting swords, can attack from behind a shield, giving an advantage for defensive players, it's also a fast weapon that uses little stamina from the player, allowing longer combos.

It's made exclusively of thrusting attacks, being perfect for fights in small corridors, and has a higher critical rate than most swords, resulting in more powerful ripostes and backstabs. The thrust attacks have a very small vertical hitbox, which may result in having a hard time with hitting smaller enemies like Slimes and Giant Leeches.

Its most notable weakness is its relatively low damage with its normal attacks, most notably against bosses, as they usually cannot be riposted or backstabbed, making the Rapier's true advantage more specific for PvP battles.
