The Royal Greatsword is a greatsword in Dark Souls II.

In-Game Description

Greatsword of the royal swordsmen. Its undulating blade draws blood from its foes.

Despite the magnificence of this weapon, it was terribly inadequate in the war against the mighty Giants.

Availability

Dropped by Royal Swordsmen in the The Lost Bastille, Sinners' Rise, Shrine of Winter and Drangleic Castle.

Description

Due to their similar stats and moveset, the Royal Greatsword can be viewed a Strength-oriented alternative to the Flamberge.

Much like the Flamberge, the Royal Greatsword causes bleed build-up. It provides a good amount of damage while being lighter and slightly more durable than most other greatswords.

Compared to the Flamberge, it is lighter and more durable, as well as being obtainable earlier, outside of Scholar of the First Sin, where either one can be found early on. However, it demands slightly higher stats and the blade is much shorter than the Flamberge, which impacts its usefulness somewhat, especially when multiple foes are faced at once. Additionally, the Flamberge is likely to have more bleed build-up per hit due to bleed scaling off of the player's dexterity. Furthermore, despite the Flamberge's lower base damage, it is likely to deal more damage on an optimized build, as it gains an S scaling in Dexterity when fully upgraded, while the Royal Greatsword only reaches a B scaling in Strength.
