Hideous creatures resembling an arachnid, Sewer Centipedes have long human-like hair which raises sinister questions of their origins. A mass of legs with a ribcage-like maw, these monsters dwell in the sewers underneath Irithyll City and the toxic marshes of the Profaned Capital. Like the Gaping Dragon, these horrors have no actual head: when they attack they curl their head backward, showing only a fleshy eyeless underside.
- Three are found dormant in the lake surrounding the city. One is below the quay, guarding a Ring of Sacrifice; the other two are in a semi-secluded area on the far right, near the Great Heal miracle. They will attack upon picking up the item if not dealt with first.
- Several are found throughout the toxic swamp surrounding the chapel's ruins.
- One can be found outside of the corvian settlement, surrounded by numerous rotting corvians. Second is behind a gate at the Corvian Settlement.
Sewer Centipedes have low vitality and can be slain quickly before they can pose a serious threat. They will often submerge themselves underwater but their exposed back and hair gives away their position. Players are advised to used ranged weapons to weaken or eliminate them before they can get too close, especially in the toxic waters of the Capital.
Some of the Sewer Centipedes in the lake outside the sewer entrance will not attack the player and cannot be damaged. The active ones have visible hair that moves slightly in the water. Alternatively, locking on will make them easy to locate.
Budding Green Blossom
- The Sewer Centipede resembles the jorōgumo, a yokai from Japanese folklore. It is said that when a jorō spider reaches 400 years old, it gains magical abilities and becomes a giant spider able to turn into a beautiful woman. Similarly to the Sewer Centipede, many tales place the jorōgumo near bodies of water.
