  • Overall thought Dark Souls 2 was easier than Dark Souls, which I didn't think we going to be possible when I bought it given the diminishing HP with each death mechanic but it still had its painful moments. For me the worst was in Shrine of Amana with those infuriating mages taking pot shots at you with magic  from 3 miles away... while you're waist deep in water and move as if you are at 150% weight capacity. Oh  and this is while you're dealing with non-ranged enemies. The most frustrating part about this for me is that I was doing a pure mage build that at this point in the game was 5-shotting bosses but the stupid mages were way beyond my lock-on distance while they could hit me from basically across the level. I had no way to deal with them until I got relatively close. This area took me absolutely forever to get through but the boss literally took 2 minutes which felt like a total anti-climax. Just a frustrating experience all around.

He definitely caused a great deal of Fume.

    • There is some serious BS in Dark Souls II, the over all game is easier, but there are a lot more environmental hazards. In particular the poision shooting statuse in The Black Gulch need to stay broken, once you smash them in a playhtrough.

However my most painful memories? Fighting the Belfry Gargoyles in the Belfry Luna is one. The similar fight in the first game was a lot easier, having to deal with 3 of those things at any given time, unless you're really fast and take one down before the 3rd/4th/5th activate, makes that fight a real headache.

The entirity of The Gutter was painful too, because navigating that confusing mess makes Blight Town look like a walk in the park. Plus all of the enemies in that area are just flat cheap... The darkness and collapsing floors seal the deal, making navigation of the area a chore. The Iron Keep was irritating, The Gutter just sucks.

    • Personally I think 1 had easier bosses. I can reliably solo every boss in DS1 except the BS Four Kings, whereas there's a few I still have trouble with in 2. I dunno, maybe strength characters are OP in 1.

Anyways, to answer the question, pretty much all the optional co-op oriented places. BS enemies, bad environmental hazards, and terrible bosses although I didn't mind blue Smelter honestly. Those stupid horses in the Frigid Outskirts have a moveset worthy of a boss and I've never been able to stay alive against two of them. Yeah, don't solo these areas unless it's a pride thing...

    • Strength is OP in DS1, Poise is OP in DS1, Parrying is OP in DS1, Weapon Buffs are OP in DS1.

And most of the bosses are pretty much sock puppets that can't turn around. Dark Souls 1 doesn't have good challenging boss fights in the base game. Some are tough the first time, until you figure out theres multiple enemies that spawn one at a time with 2 minute delays between them. Or bosses where you have to let yourself die.. People always looking at DS1 through rose-tinted glasses.

    • "Dark Souls is the hardest game I've ever beaten!" Yeah that doesn't mean it's a hard game. They make actual tough bosses in Dark Souls 2 and everyone was complaining about it for years.

Scholar of The First Sin is the best in the series, recent reviews also tend to agree on this.

That area is a literal cakewalk, and the boss is a joke.

    • I wanted to kill every boss on one character, for completeness's sake. This includes bosses i'd normally skip, like the Gank Trio in Sunken king, and the ancient dragon. Those two both took a fair few tries, but when I got to the Frigid Outskirts to check off the last on the list, Lud and Zallen. I hate that area so much. It's far too big, doesn't have much of anything interesting in it (except for the ring of the living, which is cool but i don't pvp often.) And those god damn ice reindeer. Fuck those guys. And the boss at the end of it all is a lazy copy and paste of Aava, times two. I must have spent around four hours running back through the snow again and again, most of the time getting taken out by the reindeer before making it to the boss. Yes, I was using summons, but can you blame me for wanting to get done with that area in less than a week?

    • i am near the end of this game.. again... i understand the relativity.

      so lets define some parameters.

      1. 1)  i am over level 200.

and i have NOT started new game plus (  + )

lets start there. plz, again i impore all help

    • Advice where specifically?

        Loading editor
    • again, i understand the relativity.

i am trying  to do as much as possible b4  new game  +. this includes ALL ITEMS big or small.

we will get to tht later.

i stared out as a melee character ( as i always do )

but! i wanted to try the spell/ hex / socerry.... technicnics tht the game has to offer.

i dabbleded in this in  prievious editions. but never fully explored it. i would like to try it out.

      hence,  my dilemna

        Loading editor
    • i got to a certain point in the game, were i had to decide on a switch.... i abandonded the melee statsto build the other stats

hence..... 200 level on 1 walk thru

        Loading editor
    • my  stats  are    40+ on vigour, endurance  AND adaptability.

      stats on faith and  intelligence...20+

however... i will not lie... attunment is at a very low number

        Loading editor
    • in addition to tht   ( as tht wasn't enuff )

i have NOT beat the ancient dragon, OR king vendrick, an obviously the queen and her coherts: throne watcher or throne defender

    • therefore...... plenty of souls to go

        Loading editor
    • oh yeah! lets not forget tht beast ,,,,tht.... @#$% ...... darklurker!

yah i havn't beaten him either

        Loading editor
    • so , to continue, here are a couple of questions:

      1)  wht stat levels are good to experience the "spell" casting this includes hexes and pyromancy?

      2) it is wise to start the dlc editions b4 completing the game?

      3) can u exit the boss fight after beating throne watcher and defender? i really dont want 3 boss fights in a row.

        Loading editor
    • 1) Attunement will increase spell casting, including hex and pyros

      2) It is wise to start the dlc later in the game but whether or not you beat the game first is up to you.

      3) You can exit a boss fight after the throne defenders, just use a homeward bone or exit the game mid fight, this will not work if you have any summons however

        Loading editor
    • Practically all of the DLCs in DSII were a nightmare to go through, especially if you're like me and try to kill the enemies to their spawning limit. Either I'm worse than the average Dark Souls player (which is likely considering my recent playthrough of DSIII) or my character is just overall terrible

        Loading editor
    • ty to all who have responded.  sorry i've been away for awhile.... but ; as many as u know, this game takes time, since my last posts.... i've beaten the ancient dragon ( oh my god!) tht took some time an effort!  And i've taken out king V.

now -  if i may  -  i would like to address some old questions.

and then ask some new ones.

      1) i understand  the attunment stat. i wish i could raise this stat. but i dont think it will happen much b4 new game +

therefore, my question to this specific point is: wht stats do u need in order to have some "fun" in dark souls 2?

i see the opportunities in spell/hex etc. butt a foundation is always key in this game

      2)  wht do u mean by " wise to start dlc later in the game"   i am very late in the game. b4 or after? i understand the  realitivity

      3)  here is a detail i screwed up. i'm trying to complete the jugo quest. unfortunately for me ( to my understanding at least) jugo needs to survive this fight.  if i make him survive... can i exit out b4 i face the queen? i'm worried about loosing the souls from the defenders when i face the queen. does this make sense?

        Loading editor
    • now some new ones....

      1) can someone define the "four crowns"?

      2) to get the kings soul.... ( i understand u cannot b hollow).... but tht ring tht (  sorta reverses hollowing  )... will tht work? or do i have to waste an effigy?

        Loading editor
    • The four crowns are as follows: King's Crown Crown of the Sunken King (helm) Crown of the Old Iron King (helm) Crown of the Ivory King (helm)

These crowns have varying effects, but after all are acquired, they'll all prevent players from hollowing.
To acquire the Soul of the King, you MUST be human, so the use of a Human Effigy is necessary.

        Hope this helps,

    • k ty. so tht/this applies to the dlc

        Loading editor
    • and upon further reading i hav to use an effigy. tht's a factor!

        Loading editor
    • so... if anyone can answer.... can i exit out of the defender battle b4 i meet the queen?

        Loading editor
    • in other words if i beat the defenders while human, complete jugo quest, b4! i face the queen... use the souls and then get the king stuff? can u follow?

        Loading editor
    • only to face the queen at a latr  time?

and yes. i'm low on effigyies

        Loading editor
    • You can.

        Loading editor
    • how?! this is important! i  hate wasting souls. and since i need as many as i can get! in order to amplify my "magic" stats. tell me wht to do?

second) i have 5 giant souls. wht r they good for after beating king v? i sorta remember straid having a trade. (ha ha a rhyme)... but! again r these worth any thing? should i cash in?

        Loading editor
    • oh, just a minor point. has anyone farmed the entire game? on the first run thru? is there any reward for this?

        Loading editor
    • Keep the giant souls for next NG+ Cycle, they don't offer many souls while being used so it's good to keep them.

There's no reward for farming the entire game.

You can defeat the throne watcher and defender immediately after getting the ring, if you so please, leaving just Nashandra and possibly Aldia for last.

You're thinking of Repel, which is acquired by trading the Giant Lord Soul with Straid of Olaphis, it makes you immune to all damage for about a second and a half, without duration extending gearrings.

        Loading editor
    • k thx. just 1 follow up question then.

if i face the throne brothers... defeat them... and ( for whtevr reason)  i do not exit out and go on to face the queen.....and die fighting her...... is my bloodstain outside the fog gate or inside?

        Loading editor
    • another minor point:  to gain lucidia armor... faith has to equal 30. can one use items to reach lvl 30? or does it have to be a "natural" lvl 30?

        Loading editor
    • If you die inside the Throne Watcher and Defender arena, your bloodstain will be in there where you died, just like every other bloodstain.

You should be able to use rings and whatnot, but i'm not entirely sure.

        Loading editor
    • bloodstains dont always appear inside the boss rooms. fighting the ancient dragon and king v... if u died in the boss room...ur bloodstain is outside the fog gate b4 u re-enter

        Loading editor
    • but u am curious about the ring of prayer. i nevr enter a boss fight with alot of souls. and since i'm trying to achieve as much as possible on my first walk thru.... i would like to get lucdia gift. if i buy the ring of prayer to increase my faith to 30... will she give it? or does it have to be a "natural" 30?

I'm not entirely sure, but I can look into it for you. I'm also 99% positive your bloodstain will remain in there if you die.

        Loading editor
    • i bet. sounds logical since the throne brothers r a natural path. and the ancient dragon ( as well as, king v) r optional bosses.

it should be noted... tht ( for less advanced players)   it is VERY important to face the throne of want b4! the giant lord.

i made a mistake. i rarely make mistakes

    • any word on the ring of prayer? will tht achieve lucida gift? i'm kinda stuck....here

        Loading editor
    • i  became impatient. sorry. for all tht do not know....  to gain lucidia gift... it seems tht it has to b a "natural" 30 in faith.

although this is disappointing for me..... fortunatly, this leaves only 1 question.

and tht question is: where do i donate the souls tht i can ... and/or will aquire?

      any suggestion????

        Loading editor
    • "Donate"?

If you mean how many souls do you need to spend to get their gift, you don't have to for her, just need 30 FTH

      .

        Loading editor
    • sorry tht i have been away for awhile. i don't always have time to play this game.

what i mean in regards to "donate" is as follows:

      1. 1) i was trying to get lucidia gift.  in order to get her gift-which is her armor set- one must have a faith of 30 or more. my faith is 26.

since it would require alot of souls (and i mean alot)  to raise my faith 5 levels to get to 30+...

i decided to gamble and purchase the ring of prayer to raise my faith to 30.

      this did not work.

        Loading editor
    • furthermore, i am getting closer to the end of the game. i have defeated the throne brothers and was able to escape with the souls.

now , the only question tht remains is: what should i spend my souls on.

b4 i start new game plus?

    • thx shadow. i really do appreciate your and everyone/anyone responsesto my questions.

i did realize a mistake in my questions tht i need/should expose...

i constantly refer to lucida gift wht i really mean is LINDELT... thts the gift tht i was trying to obtain. my mistake im sorry for the confusion.

with tht said everyone tht plays this game knows tht it constantly evolves...

WITH tht said i am in a few cunumdrums they are as follows:

      1. 1) i'm trying to complete jugo quest line.

i defeated 2 boss fights with him alive. unfortunately for me, the third boss survival  (with jugo)  had to be the throne of want.

i'm 99% sure i did this. when i defeated the throne bros-with jugo alive mind you- the cut scene went into play and i perished.

even though i beat the throne brothers.... agian with jugo alive.... he did not give me his sword. why???

do you have to be human to get tht gift?

        Loading editor
    • second) i am down to 5! yes! 5!     human effiggies. with no more to farm/gain.

im trying to beat nastrandra with jugo alive... not to easy for me. im trying to do this because, i assume, i have to beat the queen with jugo alive in order to complete tht quest line.

      true or false?
