There has recently been a dispute between some wiki users as to whether real life trivia should be included on weapon pages. For example, see the Barbed Club page's trivia section.
Adding this to the trivia sections would allow curious users to find out the origins of certain weapons, or what they were inspired by. However, it could also be argued that such information is irrelevant and will just cause clutter on pages. If you vote, please leave a message detailing why you voted how you did.
The poll ended early as the debate had just gotten silly and irrelevant. There were 4 votes for and 9 votes against. Real life trivia will not be allowed on weapon pages.
I'm sure you're aware to keep things nice as you discuss this in the comments.
I would say this sort of tangential learning is irrelevant as mentioning that some weapon doesn't actually look like a weapon of the same name in real life only serves to remind you that this is a video game where everything is just made up anyway.
The reason I opposed is because this is a Wiki about a VIDEO GAME! That's like putting real life history in Half-Life, it's not needed. I am sorry this is out of character for me, but this is a ridiculous debate.
I Don't think the site needs this type of information because the information is irrelevant to the wiki and if people are curious to what the weapon is based on they should go to the various information sites on the internet that regard said weapons.
I'm noting it for anyone who doesn't know, no need for the sarcasm.
As for why I voted no, I feel it has no place on the Wiki. This is a Wiki to provide information for a video game, that kind of stuff isn't suited as it does nothing for the reader to help them increase their knowledge of the game. Sure, they're some cool facts maybe, but they belong in the comments or on a forum.
My reason is simple. I was and to some extent still am a practiced bladed weapon user in real life (training / exorcise etc: i don't compete anymore) And while the thought of realistic weapon trivia here is a cool idea it is both irrelevant and somewhat misleading in the games enviornemt. I'd cite examples but that would just take up way to much space. Bottom line, fantasy weapons used in fantasy style have no bearing on realistic trivia or use.
Perhaps a compromise would be in order. If we can agree to have an "Inspirations and Ideas" area put on the wiki, we can post all real-life and inspirational trivia there instead of on the weapons or items pages.
Okay seriously, can an Admin do something about this guy already? He's nothing but toxic towards everyone else in the community, he's already gotten himself banned from chat for personal attacks on other users, and has made countless other personal attacks at other users here on the Wiki. It's ridiculous that he's not been blocked yet.
