Visual effects of Toxic
For other uses, see Toxic (disambiguation).
Not to be confused with Poison.

Def res toxic Toxic is a negative status effect, auxiliary effect and damage type that can be inflicted in Dark Souls.

General information[]

Toxic is very similar to Poison in almost every way; however, it typically deals more damage and can easily become a nuisance with its 10-minute duration.

Enemies that inflict Toxic generally have very high resistance toward both Toxic and Poison attacks.

Effect[]

Once Toxic is contracted, it deals relatively high damage over a period of 10 minutes and lasts until it is either cured, expired or death occurs. It also reduces stamina recovery by -15 per second while in effect.

Similar visual and audio effects to Poison can also be observed. The major differences, however, are the visual "mist" effect, which is darker, and the sound effect, which differs from that of Poison as well.

Notes[]

  • Damage per second is dependent on the source of contraction and is not at all affected by Toxic Resist, character level or the game difficulty (New Game, New Game+, etc.).
  • Duration is always 10 minutes and is not affected by Toxic Resist.
  • Toxic and Poison have separate Resist meters. This means that both can be afflicted at the same time.
  • In the event that the player is under the attack of multiple sources of Toxic, the source that deals the inflicting blow will be the one to deal the corresponding damage.
  • When exiting the game while under the effects of Toxic, the meter will appear to refill upon re-entering. Despite this, the timer does not reset to 10 minutes, but takes the remaining amount of time to expire.

Defense[]

Even though the value is normally not displayed, increasing Toxic Resist can be accomplished by increasing Poison Resist, with the exception of the Poisonbite Ring, which only defends against Poison.

Curing[]

Toxic, and its buildup, can be cured with the items Blooming Purple Moss Clump and Divine Blessing or through the use of the Remedy sorcery. Resting at a bonfire also cures Toxic.
