Toxic is a negative status effect caused by weapons, spells, or attacks from certain enemies within the game.

OverviewEdit

If Toxic is inflicted on the player, a status bar will appear on the HUD indicating current level of buildup. Once the bar fills up, the effect procs, inflicting the player with strong damage over time and a stamina regeneration penalty. A player's resistance to Toxic buildup is equal to their resistance to Poison buildup.

There are two strains of Toxic: Environmental Toxic, and Player Toxic.

Environmental ToxicEdit

Environmental Toxic occurs when the source that procs Toxic is from an environmental hazard or a non-human enemy; that is, any source that is not player-based. When inflicted with Environmental Toxic, the player suffers from the following:

  • -12 HP per second if source is Ground Toxic, or -15 HP per second if source is Projectile Toxic
  • Between 0.08% and 0.15% of maximum HP taken as damage per second (increases with player's maximum HP value)
  • -15 points per second stamina regeneration penalty

Environmental Toxic persists for 300 seconds, or 5 minutes, unless cured. If left untreated, it can inflict a total of 3,600 or 4,500 damage, plus between 25% and 50% of the player's maximum HP.

The two sources of Ground Toxic are the swamp in the Profaned Capital, and the ground in the Consumed King's Garden. Projectile Toxic is inflicted by the mist breath attacks of dagger-wielding Smouldering Ghrus in Smouldering Lake, the spitting attacks of Sewer Centipedes, the vomit attacks of Forlorn Corvian Settlers and the breath attacks of the Demon Prince in the first phase.

Player ToxicEdit

Player Toxic occurs when the source of the Toxic proc is from a consumable or spell cast by an enemy player, or from a self-proc. Player Toxic is significantly shorter, but also deals increased damage over time to make up for it. When a player is inflicted with Player Toxic, they suffer the following effects:

  • -22 HP per second
  • Between 0.1% and 0.05% of maximum HP taken as damage per second (increases with player's maximum HP value)
  • -5 points per second stamina regeneration penalty

Player Toxic persists for 90 seconds unless cured. Left unchecked, Player Toxic can inflict a total of 1,980 damage plus between 5% and 10% of the player's maximum HP.
