Dark Souls, has a very interesting way of introducing it's backstory to the player. The player is not given much information on what has happened in the past but can put various item descriptions and dialogues together, to figure some things out. I have to say, the lore of the game is amazing and every bit seems to intertwine; as the level design seems to do as well. This can be said for more than just the first game but as well as the other games too. Of course, some go through the game having no idea of the complete backstory. Most players, seem to get the idea of Dark Souls being "too hard" when actually it's a game presenting an actual challenge.
